Regarding the incident where Google and the cooperating public relations company required participating internet influencers to "ensure no bias towards other competitive smartphones" in evaluations, Google PR manager Kayla Geier responded that Team Pixel is an independent program separate from Google's news and creator review programs. The goal of this project is to hand products over to internet content creators rather than news media or tech reviewers. Geier stated that the new wording used in the Team Pixel form was indeed a mistake and has now been removed
