Report: Apple's A16 chip is produced in the United States for the first time, expected to achieve production target in the first half of next year
Apple's TSMC factory in Arizona has started production of the A16 chip for the first time, with production targets expected to be completed in the first half of next year. Although the current output is small, production is expected to increase significantly with the completion of the second phase of the factory. Local time on Monday, financial and economic blog ZeroHedge cited independent journalist Tim Culpan's report that Apple has produced the first batch of A16 chips through the 4nm process at the TSMC factory in Arizona, USA.
Although the current production volume is small, according to reports citing informed sources:
"When the second part of the first phase of the factory is completed and production begins, the output will increase significantly, and it is expected that the project will reach its production target in the first half of 2025."
The Apple A16 chip first appeared in the iPhone 14 Pro two years ago. The report pointed out that this is the first time the A16 chip has been produced in the United States, which may indicate that Apple plans to gradually shift the production of advanced mobile processors domestically.
Currently, it is unclear which Apple devices the A16 chips produced at the Arizona factory will be installed in. Culpan speculates that these chips may be used in the latest iPad or the next generation of iPhone SE.
