Li Auto will definitely make robots in the future, will not layout Robotaxi, and there is a probability of creating an artificial intelligence supercar. "Disappearing" from the public eye for nine months, Li Auto CEO Li Xiang has thrown out multiple viewpoints in succession.

According to Che Dongxi on December 25, Li Xiang just held an interview communication meeting.

Throughout the interview, Li Xiang also provided the future development direction of Li Auto. First, Li Xiang believes that Li Auto will continue to focus on AI in the future, ultimately achieving AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) through the carrier of Li Auto.

Regarding future product layout, Li Xiang directly denied the Robotaxi product, stating that Li Auto will not lay out in this area, but Li Auto will 100% make humanoid robots, although the pace is not now.

By 2030, Li Auto has a 50% chance of making a very interesting supercar that will feature artificial intelligence.

During the entire interview process, Li Xiang repeatedly mentioned the direction of AI, indicating that the next phase for Li Auto will focus heavily on AI, which is also a consensus among many car companies. Previously, XPeng Motors had also mentioned AI multiple times during its Technology Day.

01 . Li Xiang wants to be the CEO of an artificial intelligence company divided into three stages

Regarding the future product planning of the entire Li Auto company, Li Xiang stated that Li Auto now aims to become an artificial intelligence company, and he himself wants to transition from a car company CEO to an artificial intelligence company CEO.

Li Xiang believes that what Li Auto needs to do is not the intelligence of cars, but the automotiveization of artificial intelligence. The logo of Li Auto has never included the word "car," and the operating company is still called "Beijing Chehejia Information Technology Co., Ltd."

However, Li Xiang also mentioned that hardware is very important. He refers to Li Auto as "connecting the physical world and the digital world," thus becoming a leading artificial intelligence company.

The core reason is that the capabilities of the first stage are still insufficient, and the responsibility lies with the user, hence it is called enhancing the user's capabilities. However, it will indeed make the user very convenient and significantly improve the user's efficiency.

The second stage, Li Xiang calls "becoming my assistant."

Li Xiang explains that the user only needs to assign tasks to the artificial intelligence, and even continuous tasks can be independently completed by the AI, which will also take responsibility for the results.

Li Xiang gives an example where the user can tell a Level 4 car to pick up their child. The user does not need to be in the car; it can go to the school, recognize the child's face, and open the door for the child to get in.

Li Xiang believes that this stage is better because artificial intelligence will become a large-scale application, which is the true iPhone 4 stage. For automotive companies, only achieving Level 4 is the true iPhone 4 stage, but Li Xiang believes that today is not yet that time.

The third stage is what Li Xiang considers the ultimate stage of AGI, which he calls "silicon-based family."

Li Xiang explains that at this stage, the user no longer needs to give any instructions to the artificial intelligence, nor assign tasks; the AI becomes a member of the family, even an important organizer of the household. The AI not only understands the user but also understands the user's children and friends, even better than the user does.

Li Xiang believes that at this stage, artificial intelligence will proactively handle many tasks and autonomously manage the household. When AGI develops to the third stage, Li Xiang thinks an important point is that the user's memories will also be preserved by the AI; the user's physical existence may cease, but their memories will become a part of the AI.

02 . 100% Focus on Robots, Not on Robotaxis

Regarding the competition in the AGI industry, Li Xiang believes that it is still in a very early stage. Everyone is still trying to obtain the Level 3 ticket for AGI and the Level 4 ticket for autonomous driving. Since Li Auto is working in both areas simultaneously, Li Xiang believes this is an opportunity that must be pursued.

Regarding large models, Li Xiang believes that the foundational model will eventually evolve into a Vision Language Action Model (VLA).

Li Xiang explained that language models need to understand the three-dimensional world through language and cognition, and the three-dimensional world is not just images; images cannot restore the real physical world. It requires a true vector to understand the world through Diffusion models.

Li Xiang believes this is the same for autonomous driving. To achieve L4, autonomous driving must have strong cognitive abilities to effectively understand the world when changes occur, rather than just relying on the compressed memories behind end-to-end systems.

Therefore, for the Li Auto team, Li Xiang requires that within China, the foundational model of large language models must be among the top three in the industry in the coming years. Based on this requirement, he expressed willingness to invest in whatever training computing power is needed.

Regarding Robotaxi, Li Xiang stated he does not want to pursue it. Li Xiang believes that after achieving L4 autonomous driving, family cars will become cheaper, and the cost will decrease, leading to more people willing to own a car.

Li Xiang believes that when a space becomes better, more efficient, and offers a better experience, users should own that space. The mobile home is ultimately L4, and a happy home is what Li Xiang refers to as "silicon-based family."

Regarding whether Li Auto will develop humanoid robots, Li Xiang stated the probability is definitely 100%, but the timing is not now. Li Xiang believes that L4 autonomous driving is the simplest form of robotics; if they cannot solve L4 autonomous driving, they will not be able to tackle more complex humanoid robots.

Additionally, Li Xiang responded to the recent hot topic of why to buy Ferrari, stating that experience is very important. Only through personal experience can one develop their own cognition and abilities.

Li Xiang also mentioned that by 2030, there is a 50% chance that Li Auto will create a very interesting supercar, but it will definitely be an artificial intelligence sports car.
