French auto market saw a 1.5% year-on-year decline in new car registrations in March, totaling 180,024 units. This was mainly due to a sharp drop in the internal combustion engine (ICE) market, with gasoline car registrations down 17.7% and diesel car registrations down 31.9%, leading to an overall 20.8% decline in ICE vehicle deliveries. Although mild hybrid (MHEV) registrations increased by 26.1%, this was not enough to offset the ICE decline.

The French auto market is rapidly electrifying, with the market share of gasoline and diesel vehicles significantly shrinking. In March, battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations grew by 10.8% year-on-year, becoming the second-largest powertrain with an 18.9% market share. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) growth was modest, rising only 3.6%, with a market share of 9%.

From January to March, BEV registrations increased by 23%, raising their market share to 17.9%. PHEV registrations also grew by 5.6%, stabilizing their market share at 8.7%.
