BMW Group is constructing a high-voltage battery assembly facility at its San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico. This project represents a significant investment by BMW in the region, aimed at expanding its production base in Mexico. The total investment amounts to 800 million euros.
The Neue Klasse model will be one of the main products at the plant. Starting in 2027, this model will be produced at the Mexican facility. As the initial derivative of the Neue Klasse, it will be launched at the end of 2025 at the new plant in Hungary. Sedan production will take place in Munich, while the Sports Activity Vehicle will be manufactured at the Mexican plant.
BMW Group follows the principle of "local for local," building high-voltage battery assembly facilities worldwide as close as possible to its vehicle plants. In addition to the Mexican plant, BMW is also constructing high-voltage battery assembly facilities in Germany, China, the United States, and Lower Bavaria. Beyond high-voltage battery assembly, the San Luis Potosi plant is undergoing other significant changes. The body shop will expand by nearly 20,000 square meters, bringing the total area to over 90,000 square meters. Meanwhile, the assembly and logistics areas will also expand by nearly 10,000 square meters. Currently, the plant employs around 3,700 workers, producing the BMW 3 Series sedan, BMW 2 Series Coupe, and BMW M2 models for global markets.
