Steady Voyager美國薪酬統計公司 ADP 指出，天氣問題影響就業，1 月份私營機構創造的就業機會大幅下降，只增加了 10.6 萬名新員工，遠低於上月預期的 25.3 萬名。
主要職位增長來自酒店業，其中酒吧、餐廳、酒店等增加了 9.5 萬個職位，其他增長行業包括金融活動（3 萬）、製造業（2.3 萬）以及教育和衛生服務（1.2 萬）。部分行業卻出現跌幅，如貿易、運輸和公用事業部門減少了 4.1 萬人，建築業減少了 2.4 萬人，自然資源和採礦業減少了 2,000 人。
ADP 首席經濟學家 Nela Richardson 表示，極端天氣對就業帶來負面影響，例如是中西部的暴風雪和加州的洪水等，其實就業增長並不如數字所顯示的那樣疲弱。
在此期間，小型公司（員工少於 50 人）處境最為艱難，裁員達 7.5 萬人，而大型公司（員工逾 500 人）則增加了 12.8 萬人。
