Nammi, the new electric vehicle (EV) brand of Chinese auto giant Dongfeng Motor, has officially launched its first model, the Nammi 01, to target the compact car market.
Nammi launched the Nammi 01 on January 7, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) available in six variants with a starting price range of RMB 74,800 ($10,470) to RMB 104,800.
Dongfeng officially launched the Nammi brand on August 23, 2023, calling it China's first automotive brand to focus on small EVs. It has previously had NEV (NEV) brands including Voyah, M Hero, and eπ.
Like many other automakers, Dongfeng emphasized that the Nammi brand will embrace deep user involvement, saying that the letter M stands for "Me".
Nammi will be an important force in helping Dongfeng achieve annual sales of 1 million NEVs by 2025, Dongfeng deputy general manager Chen Hao said last August.
Nammi will launch 1-2 new models each year and aims to achieve sales of more than 400,000 units by 2025, it said at the brand launch last year.
The Nammi 01 is based on Dongfeng's Quantum Architecture 3 platform and measures 4,030 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm.
That's smaller than BYD's Dolphin, which measures 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
The BYD Dolphin currently has a starting price of RMB 116,800 and is available in two CLTC range options -- 401 km and 420 km.
The Dolphin sold 36,514 units in December, up 40.04 percent year-on-year and up 3.6 percent from November, making it the fifth best-selling BYD model last month.
The Nammi 01 is powered by an electric motor with a maximum power of 70 kW, a maximum torque of 160 Nm and a top speed of 140 km/h.
The car has 31.45 kWh and 42.3 kWh battery pack options with CLTC ranges of 330 km and 430 km respectively. It can get a range of 200 km on an 8-minute charge at the fastest.
Similar to other brands' new model launches, the Nammi offers benefits to current buyers, including paying RMB 99 to get a RMB 3,000 deduction on the final payment, and a replacement subsidy of up to RMB 3,000. However, these benefits are only available to the first 10,000 customers who purchase the Nammi 01.
The Nammi 01 was delivered to the first customers on launch night.
