Luminar announces acquisition of the laser module division of UK-based G&H to expand its semiconductor business
Luminar Technologies, a manufacturer of LiDAR sensors for autonomous vehicles, CEO Austin Russell announced that the company has acquired the optoelectronics and laser module business of UK-based Gooch & Housego (G&H) to expand its semiconductor business. Building on the acquisitions of three companies last year - laser manufacturer Freedom Photonics, custom chip design company Black Forest Engineering, and optoelectronic detector company Optogration - the company established the semiconductor division Luminar Semi. The semiconductor division is now achieving a balance between revenue and expenses, and following the acquisition of EM4 under G&H, it will further expand into the aerospace and defense sectors. Russell stated that the company now has over 100 active customers and projects spanning multiple fields
