MTR CORPORATION announced that in order to accommodate the large-scale track realignment project for the Tung Chung Line Extension, train services between Tung Chung Station and Sunny Bay Station on the Tung Chung Line will be suspended approximately 2 hours earlier on October 26th. MTR will arrange free shuttle buses between the two stations during this period. The engineering team will make every effort to ensure the smooth progress of the project, allowing the Tung Chung Line to resume normal service the next day with the first train departing as scheduled.
MTR mentioned that the last train from Tung Chung Station to Hong Kong Station will depart at 11:01 pm that evening, while the last train from Hong Kong Station to Tung Chung Station will depart at 11:07 pm. Train services on other sections of the Tung Chung Line will remain normal until the end of service.
MTR noted that the Tung Chung Line Extension project commenced last year, involving the construction of Tung Chung East Station between the existing Sunny Bay Station and Tung Chung Station, as well as the realignment of the original Tung Chung Line track to build a 1.2 km new track connecting to the new station. Due to the complexity and indivisibility of the installation process for the critical 4 sets of points, the team has confirmed the need to extend non-operational hours to complete each installation process. As for the installation of the other 3 sets of points, they are planned to be carried out within the next 3 years. MTR will adjust and confirm the schedule based on the progress of the realignment project and will announce details in due course
