Google has upgraded its Google Earth service and introduced the "Timelapse" feature, allowing users to view satellite and aerial images from 80 years ago. This feature is available for cities like London, Berlin, Warsaw, and Paris, allowing users to go back to the 1930s. By comparing historical photos with current ones, users can observe geographical changes, such as San Francisco's port being mainly used for transportation in 1938, whereas now it is filled with restaurants and cruise ships

IT Home reported on October 3 that Google has upgraded its Google Earth service, allowing users to take a "time machine" back in time to view satellite and aerial images from 80 years ago.

According to the update announcement cited by IT Home, this "time retrospective" feature is only available for certain cities including London, Berlin, Warsaw, and Paris, allowing users to go back to the 1930s.

Google Earth enables users to "go back in time" and compare historical photos with current ones. In a blog post, Google compared old photos of San Francisco from 1938 with those from 2024 to see how the geography of the area has changed.

In the sample photos provided by Google, the 1938 photo shows the port of San Francisco mainly used for transportation. In the most recent photos, the same location is filled with restaurants and cruise ships
