Meituan was fined and confiscated 650,000 for failing to strictly review merchant qualifications
According to the business risk information from Tianyancha, recently, Meituan's affiliated company Beijing SanKuai Technology Co., Ltd. was fined 200,000 yuan by the Beijing Municipal Market Supervision Administration for failing to conduct authenticity checks on the qualifications of platform merchants' licenses. The illegal income of over 459,000 yuan was confiscated. The penalty reason indicates that the party involved, as a third-party platform provider for online catering services, established the "Meituan Waimai" platform's entry rules and review registration standards, requiring authenticity checks on the licenses and qualifications of merchants entering the platform. The platform merchant "Wangjing Barbecue. Xiao Yao" did not upload the "Food Business License" after changing its "Business License," and the party did not verify whether it had obtained the food business license, nor did it conduct offline audits on the consistency of its operating premises. This merchant operated on the platform from May 15, 2023, to August 24, 2024, and Meituan collected illegal income of 423,463.33 yuan. Additionally, 12 other merchants passed the platform's entry review registration without uploading food business license qualifications and began conducting online catering service activities through the "Meituan Waimai" platform starting from September 23, 2022, among which 10 were unlicensed operators, and 2 had obtained food business license qualifications but did not upload them as required. Furthermore, one store uploaded a false "Food Business License" but passed the platform's entry review registration. During the online operation period of the aforementioned 13 involved merchants, the party collected illegal income of 36,501.36 yuan from these merchants. In summary, the party failed to review the food business license qualifications of the online catering service providers, with illegal income obtained from the involved merchants exceeding 459,000 yuan
