Trump proposes to rename the highest peak in the United States to Mount McKinley, overturning the decision made during the Obama administration
Trump stated on Sunday local time that he intends to rename the highest peak in the United States, "Denali," back to "Mount McKinley," overturning the renaming decision made during former President Obama's administration. This peak is located in Denali National Park and Preserve in south-central Alaska, with an elevation of about 6,190 meters. It has been officially referred to as "Mount McKinley" by the United States since 1917, in honor of the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901. However, in 2015, Obama renamed the mountain "Denali" to acknowledge the indigenous people of Alaska. Trump said on Sunday, "President McKinley was the president responsible for creating immense wealth. That is one of the reasons we want to restore the name Mount McKinley, because I believe he deserves that name."
