Barrick Gold To Temporarily Suspend Mining Operations In Loulo-Gounkoto, Mali
Barrick Gold Corp. has temporarily suspended operations at its Loulo-Gounkoto mining complex in Mali due to an interim attachment order by the Mali government. This order has resulted in the transfer of existing gold stock to a custodial bank, halting the shipment and sale of gold. Barrick Gold is committed to engaging with the government to resolve the disputes.
Barrick Gold Corp. (GOLD), a Canadian miner, revealed on Tuesday that it has temporarily suspended operations at its Loulo-Gounkoto mining complex in Mali.
This follows the execution of the interim attachment order by the Mali government that moved the existing gold stock from the site to a custodial bank, further preventing the shipment and sale of the gold.
Earlier, the Mali government had restricted the miner from shipping gold from the Loulo-Gounkoto mining complex.
However, Barrick Gold noted that it is committed to constructive engagement with the government to resolve the existing disputes.
