Southern Taiwan earthquake, TSMC's Central and Southern Science Park facilities evacuated urgently
Taiwan Semiconductor stated that some of its facilities in the Central Taiwan Science Park and the Southern Taiwan Science Park have reached evacuation standards and personnel evacuation is being carried out immediately. Currently, no reports of casualties have been received. In addition, manufacturers such as Innolux, United Microelectronics Corporation, and Chroma have also announced that they have evacuated employees from their campuses
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred in Chiayi, Taiwan, prompting TSMC and several other companies to activate emergency response plans.
According to China News Service, the Taiwan meteorological department reported that at 0:17 on the 21st, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Chiayi County, with a depth of 9.7 kilometers, classifying it as a very shallow earthquake. The epicenter was located 37.9 kilometers southeast of the Chiayi County government, in the Dapu Township of the county, with a maximum intensity of 6 on the weak scale, felt across various locations in Taiwan.
Following the earthquake, TSMC stated that some of its facilities in the Central Taiwan Science Park and Southern Taiwan Science Park met evacuation standards and personnel were immediately evacuated. TSMC also emphasized that the safety of personnel is the top priority and that they would follow emergency response procedures for the evacuation and accounting of indoor and outdoor personnel.
Additionally, media reports indicate that the manufacturers in TSMC's Southern Taiwan Science Park have completed the evacuation procedures and have not received any reports of casualties, with no significant damage to the buildings and facilities in the park.
Besides TSMC, manufacturers such as Innolux, United Microelectronics Corporation, and AU Optronics also reached evacuation standards and announced that they had evacuated employees from their parks.
China News Service reported that after the earthquake, several aftershocks of magnitudes 2 to 4 occurred in the Chiayi and Tainan areas
