
Standard Chartered Group appoints new chairman, taking over from Bill Winters on May 8

Standard Chartered Group announced that Maria Ramos will take over as Group Chair from Bill Winters on May 8, pending regulatory approval. Bill Winters will step down from the board after nearly nine years in office. Maria joined the board in 2021 and previously served as CEO of Absa Group Limited, with an annual salary of £1.293 million. She expressed her eagerness to work with the team to drive the group's strategy and business growth
According to Zhitong Finance APP, recently, Standard Chartered Group (02888) announced that, as Wei Haosi is approaching the end of his nine-year term, Maria Ramos (65 years old), currently an independent non-executive director, has been appointed to succeed Wei Haosi as the group chairman. Subject to regulatory approval, Maria will assume her new role after the shareholders' annual meeting held by Standard Chartered on May 8, at which point Wei Haosi will retire from the board. After taking on the role of chairman, Maria Ramos will receive an annual remuneration of £1.293 million.
It is reported that Maria joined the board as an independent non-executive director in January 2021 and was appointed as the chair of the board's risk committee and senior independent director in 2022. Maria previously served as the CEO of Absa Group Limited (formerly Barclays Africa Group Limited) for 10 years.
