Meta hires top researchers from Google to form a new AI lab

Meta (META.US) is actively building an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team by poaching top engineers from several tech companies, including Google (GOOG.US) under Alphabet.

Meta has recruited Chief Researcher Jack Rae from Google DeepMind and Machine Learning Director Johan Schalkwyk from voice AI startup Sesame AI. At the same time, Meta plans to invest billions of dollars in AI voice startup Scale AI and has invited its CEO Alexandr Wang to join the team, with an announcement possibly as early as this week
