According to a report by the Associated Press on June 29, U.S. President Trump stated that he has no intention of extending the 90-day tariff suspension for most countries and regions beyond July 9. Once the negotiation deadline he set expires, the U.S. government will notify the relevant countries and regions that unless an agreement is reached with the U.S., trade punitive measures will take effect as scheduled. He indicated that a letter would be sent to the relevant countries and regions "soon" before the deadline approaches. Trump stated on Fox News Channel: "We will assess the attitudes of each country and region towards us: whether they are friendly or unfriendly. For some countries and regions we don't care about, we will just send a high number over."
