NVIDIA (NVDA.US) announced on Monday the launch of its latest robotic chip, Jetson AGX Thor, known as the "robot brain," with a developer kit priced at $3,499. The first batch will be shipped next month and can be used to develop prototype robots.

After completing the prototype design, NVIDIA will sell the Thor T5000 module for mass production, with a minimum order of over 1,000 units, each priced at $2,999. Jetson Thor utilizes NVIDIA's latest Blackwell graphics processing technology, offering a computing speed that is 7.5 times faster than the previous generation, supporting generative AI models, including large language models and visual models, which help humanoid robots understand their environment. The chip is equipped with 128GB of memory to support the operation of large AI models.

NVIDIA Vice President Deepu Talla stated that NVIDIA does not manufacture robots or cars but supports the entire industry through its chip and software infrastructure. NVIDIA noted that companies such as Agility Robotics, Amazon, and Meta have adopted its chips and have also invested in several robotics startups.

Although the robotics business currently accounts for only about 1% of the company's revenue, it is growing rapidly. In the May quarter, sales in the automotive and robotics sectors increased by 72% year-on-year to $570 million. NVIDIA also stated that Jetson Thor can be applied to autonomous vehicles and run the Drive OS system specifically tuned for automotive applications
