
Spotify, the performance streaming platform, turned a profit last quarter, with monthly active users increasing to 710 million
Streaming platform Spotify (SPOT.US) announced that its total revenue for the third quarter increased by 7% year-on-year to €4.27 billion, but advertising revenue fell by 6%. Operating income rose by 43% to €580 million, achieving a net profit of €899 million, compared to a net loss of €86 million in the same period last year.
In the third quarter, 5 million new paid premium users were added, representing a year-on-year increase of 12%, reaching 280 million. The total number of monthly active users grew by 11%, with a net increase of 17 million users, reaching 710 million, exceeding market expectations.
Spotify expects that revenue in the fourth quarter will increase to €4.5 billion, with a median operating income estimate of €620 million. An additional 8 million paid users are expected in the fourth quarter, bringing the total to approximately 290 million. The total number of monthly active users is projected to increase by 32 million, reaching 745 million by the end of this year
