A fatal industrial accident occurred at a site in West Kowloon, Castle Peak Road West. Two men were carrying out an underground seawater cooling pipe replacement project when they were suspected to have inhaled marsh gas and subsequently died. MTR Corporation stated that the incident involved the air conditioning system of its shopping mall, Elements, which is managed by the air conditioning contractor. The two workers were employees of a subcontracting company under the air conditioning contractor.

A thorough investigation will be conducted, including a review of the relevant procedures and reporting mechanisms of the contractor, and full cooperation with the relevant government departments' investigation. MTR Corporation extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the two workers and will provide each worker's family with a cash assistance of HKD 100,000 through support organizations for emergency use. MTR Corporation also stated that it understands that the contractor and subcontractor will jointly provide a condolence payment of HKD 200,000 to each family.
