Why do these things make us happy?

Just compare them to what our ancestors did during the hunter-gatherer stage,

what made them happy,

and you'll understand.

Humans have existed for 3 million years, Homo sapiens for less than 500,000 years. For the vast majority of that time, we were hunter-gatherers, spreading across the globe like the deadliest virus or a swarm of locusts, driving most of Earth's large animals to extinction.

Farming only became widespread 10,000 years ago, industrialization 200 years ago, and office jobs just a few decades ago.
