With the increasing use of autonomous driving features, determining accident liability has become a complex issue.
The Chinese government's "Notice on Carrying out Pilot Projects for the Access and Road Travel of Intelligent Connected Vehicles" requires that pilot vehicles must purchase traffic accident liability insurance of no less than 5 million yuan to cover personal injury or property damage accidents.
This measure clarifies the responsibility of insurance companies to compensate after an accident and also stipulates that liabilities exceeding the insurance coverage limit shall be determined in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China."
This method of liability allocation not only reduces the pressure on automakers and autonomous driving technology developers but also provides victims with quick financial compensation through the insurance mechanism.
The key to solving these problems lies in clarifying liability allocation, improving insurance solutions for autonomous vehicles, and providing theoretical support through international research.
