Breaking news! Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced a temporary suspension of investment in the Mexican factory, citing potential tariffs on Mexican-made goods if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the November U.S. election. Reports as early as February 2024 suggested the Mexican factory was about to start construction, but it has yet to begin. The factory was planned to invest approximately $5 billion with an annual production capacity of 1 million electric vehicles, but now it's on hold.
However, Musk stated that they are significantly increasing production capacity at existing factories. For example, the Robotaxi will be produced at Giga Texas headquarters, and the second-generation mass production version of Optimus will also be manufactured in Texas by the end of next year.
