From the perspective of global energy demand, China's energy demand continues to rise due to urbanization and industrialization. Starting from the rapid industrialization in the 1990s, the electricity demand from factories and infrastructure has increased. Today, the migration of population into cities and the improvement of living conditions have further driven up the demand.
In China, cities have surpassed the industrial sector to become the largest energy-consuming sector. For every 1 percentage point increase in the urbanization rate, the total energy consumption will increase by at least 60 million tons of standard coal, and the per capita energy consumption of urban households is 50% higher than that of rural households. It is estimated that China's electricity demand will reach 10,498 TWh in 2025, far exceeding the 4,475 TWh in the US and 2,692 TWh in the EU.
India's economy is growing rapidly, especially in the past decade, and its energy consumption is also increasing. As the world's most populous country, India heavily relies on fossil fuels, and this will significantly increase in the future.
