NVIDIA, Microsoft, and AMD all in one fell swoop! Lenovo officially announces a heavyweight AI collaboration, unveiling the first AI PC.

At the company's annual technology event, Lenovo showcased its ambition to go all-in on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

On Tuesday, October 24th, local time, Lenovo held its annual global innovation event, Tech World, in Austin, Texas, USA, showcasing the company's most comprehensive AI capabilities to date, as well as its vision of AI for All.

This year, Lenovo focused on how to unleash the power of AI and drive intelligent transformation in all aspects of people's lives and every industry - from pocket to cloud, providing dedicated AI devices, infrastructure, solutions, and services for industries, enterprises, and individuals worldwide.

Yang Yuanqing, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group, said that AI technology has become so real for the first time, intimately related to everyone and every company. Data is essential as the product of the first stage of digital transformation. Algorithm/model-based training and inference are crucial, but computational power is also indispensable, not only in the cloud but also in the edge and endpoint with more powerful computing power.

NVIDIA and Lenovo to launch hybrid AI solutions

At this event, three giants in AI research and development, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and AMD, collectively supported Lenovo.

Among them, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Yang Yuanqing jointly announced the expansion of the partnership between the two companies to launch hybrid AI solutions to help enterprise users quickly apply generative AI.

This means that Lenovo will provide a new enterprise-level AI solution based on the NVIDIA MGX architecture, offering fully integrated systems that bring AI-driven computing power into various fields of data generation, from edge to cloud.

These solutions are supported by Lenovo's AI Professional Services Practice, enabling enterprises to adopt a hybrid cloud approach, create custom AI models through NVIDIA AI Foundation cloud services, and then run them on Lenovo's local systems, which are powered by the latest hardware and software designed by NVIDIA for generative AI.

The first AI PC equipped with AI assistant AI Twin with personal large models

At this event, Lenovo showcased its vision for future AI devices and AI-driven features, including what future AI personal computers (PCs) will look like.

Yang Yuanqing said, "Intelligent devices are like race cars; they are the ultimate carriers for AI to reach end users." Lenovo's large model compression technology enables users' own smart terminals and devices to have the ability to run personal-level large models.

Yang Yuanqing said that future personal computers will be AI PCs, future smartphones will be AI smartphones, and future workstations will be AI workstations. On these devices and edge devices that support AI features, local knowledge bases will be built to better understand users. Lenovo's personal AI Twin is developed in collaboration with Microsoft, and it utilizes AI interactions on the keyboard, natural language from users, and a new concept called AI NOW to serve as a personal AI assistant for AI PCs.

This AI is based on the user's own device knowledge base and fine-tuned models, using personalized and private inference models to protect end users through data security and privacy protection.

Lenovo has also unveiled an enterprise AI assistant called Enterprise AI Twin, which deeply understands enterprises and ensures the confidentiality and security of relevant knowledge points. It searches and extracts relevant information from devices, edges, and private clouds within the enterprise, makes assessments and conclusions, and proposes solutions.

This AI Twin can be used in various scenarios, such as helping employees book travel plans that comply with company policies and suit their personal preferences, or enabling supply chain teams to reduce risks based on public AI information like weather patterns.

Yang Yuanqing stated that enterprise-level large models will coexist with public large models and public clouds, forming a hybrid form and hybrid deployment of AI. "In many scenarios, we see this hybrid trend, such as hybrid offices and digital office spaces. Lenovo and Microsoft have a lot of cooperation in this field."

Lenovo is also discussing with Microsoft how to incorporate the vision of personal AI Twin and enterprise-level AI Twin into future solutions.

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said that Microsoft is committed to helping people and businesses apply digital technology to adapt and thrive in this new AI era, so the long-term partnership between Microsoft and Lenovo is very important.

In this event, Lenovo announced a strategic partnership with AMD.

Yang Yuanqing stated that AMD is Lenovo's strategic partner, and they have close cooperation in intelligent terminals, AI-driven and AI-optimized intelligent infrastructure, and artificial intelligence solutions.

AMD Chairman and CEO Lisa Su said, "We have a long history of joint innovation with Lenovo, from the ThinkSystem in the data center to ThinkStation workstations and laptops. Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our cooperation and provide AI-optimized solutions for Lenovo's PC and data center product portfolio, driven by AMD Ryzen, EPYC, and Instinct processors."
