Investor Perspectives
[Summary of Gary Black, Former Investment Director at Goldman Sachs]
Gary Black: Here is the full content of the February 2024 Consumer Reports survey, where car owners were asked if they would buy the same car again. Rivian ranked first with 86%, Mini second with 77%, BMW third with 76%, Porsche fourth with 76%, and Tesla fifth with 74%. $TSLA$RIVN
Gary Black: There are so many investors on X who mistakenly believe that we have a negative view on $TSLA, which is crazy. It is still our third-largest holding, behind only $GOOG and $NVDA. Despite TSLA's underperformance in the past year (TSLA-2% vs. NDX+50%) and three years (TSLA-22% vs. NDX+35%), we still maintain a price target of $290 for the next 6-12 months.
Moreover, our TSLA delivery and earnings per share expectations are still far higher than Wall Street's. It's unclear where this misunderstanding comes from, but we still believe that there is a significant amount of untapped value creation between TSLA's current price of $192 and our target price of $290 within 6-12 months.
Gary Black: In the 4.5 years that I have held TSLA, I have never seen bullish supporters of TSLA attacking each other as fiercely as they have recently on X. The degree of bullishness on TSLA has always varied, but this level of disagreement seems to have Elon's approval, unprecedented in its intensity, suggesting that bullish investors like myself should sell their stocks rather than oppose it.
