The EU demands Amazon to provide more information on compliance with the Digital Markets Act
On July 5th local time, European Commission officials stated that they have requested Amazon to provide information in accordance with the "Digital Markets Act," explaining the measures the platform has taken to comply with obligations related to transparency in the Act, as well as provisions related to maintaining the advertising repository and its risk assessment reports. Amazon must provide the requested information by July 26, 2024. Specifically, Amazon needs to detail whether its recommendation algorithm complies with relevant transparency requirements, including input factors, functions, signals, information and metadata of the application, and options for users to opt out of personalized recommendations. In addition, Amazon is required to provide more information, such as the design, development, deployment, testing, and maintenance processes of the online interface of the Amazon Store Advertising Resource Library, as well as relevant supporting documents for its risk assessment reports. Based on the assessment of the response, the European Commission will evaluate the next steps. This may include formally initiating litigation proceedings under antitrust laws
