André Thierig, the manager of the Tesla Berlin factory, said, "If there is no clear signal from the market indicating the need for expansion, we will not spend billions of dollars to expand the factory." The Brandenburg State Environmental Agency partially approved Tesla's expansion plan for the Berlin factory last month. Tesla was allowed to start construction within the existing factory area, but was not allowed to cut down more trees in the forests near the factory. The expansion permit for the Tesla Berlin factory has been divided into several parts, with the approval of the second part being postponed last month. Thierig pointed out that another factor Tesla must consider when expanding the Berlin factory is electric vehicle sales. He is optimistic about the future of the Berlin factory, saying, "We believe that the market will pick up again, it's just a matter of time and speed."
