Tesla recalls some imported Model S, Model X, and domestically produced Model 3, Model Y electric vehicles
Tesla announced a recall of a total of 1,683,627 imported Model S, Model X, and domestically produced Model 3, Model Y electric vehicles. Some vehicles within the recall scope have a front trunk latch failure, which may cause the front trunk lid to open, increasing the risk of collision. Tesla will provide free software upgrades for the recalled vehicles through OTA technology to fix the latch failure and eliminate safety hazards. Vehicles that cannot be upgraded via OTA will be contacted by Tesla service centers for the recall
According to the financial news app Zhitong Finance, on August 6th, as reported by the WeChat public account "Market News", Tesla (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. have filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the "Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recalls" and the "Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recalls". Starting from today, a total of 1,683,627 imported Model S and Model X vehicles produced between October 15, 2020, and July 17, 2024, as well as domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, are being recalled.
Some vehicles within the scope of this recall may have a malfunction in the front trunk latch assembly system, where the system may fail to detect that the front trunk lid is unlocked after unlocking it. As a result, the vehicle may not issue a warning indicating that the front trunk is not securely locked. In extreme cases, this may lead to the front trunk lid opening while the vehicle is in motion, affecting the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of collision, and posing a safety hazard.
Tesla (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will provide free software upgrades for the vehicles within the recall scope through Over-the-Air (OTA) technology. After the upgrade, the vehicles will be able to detect the faulty status of the front trunk latch and issue a warning message and audible alert indicating that the front trunk is not securely locked. Additionally, vehicles found to have a faulty front trunk latch during inspection will receive free repairs to eliminate safety hazards. For vehicles that cannot be upgraded via OTA technology, Tesla service centers will contact the relevant users to arrange for the recall
