Tesla stops accepting orders for the cheapest version of Cybertruck
Tesla has stopped accepting orders for the cheapest version of the Cybertruck, while the higher-priced versions are available for immediate order. The supply and demand situation of the Cybertruck is closely watched, with Tesla planning to produce 200,000 vehicles per year. Despite strong sales, maintaining high sales volume may be a challenge. Musk stated that financially, the Cybertruck will take time to become a positive cash flow contributor
According to the financial news app Zhitong Finance, Tesla (TSLA.US) website shows that Tesla has stopped accepting orders for the cheapest version of the electric pickup truck Cybertruck priced at $61,000, while orders for the $100,000 version of Cybertruck can be placed immediately and will be delivered as early as this month.
The supply and demand situation of Cybertruck has been closely watched by Tesla investors and fans, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk has invested heavily in the development of Cybertruck and plans to produce 200,000 Cybertrucks per year. As of last October, Musk also stated that the number of Cybertruck orders had reached 1 million.
However, due to the lower-than-initially-predicted range of the higher-priced version of Cybertruck, many customers now prefer the cheaper version of Cybertruck.
Data from Cox Automotive shows that Cybertruck sold nearly 4,800 units in July this year, making it the best-selling month to date and the best-selling model in the United States with a price exceeding $100,000. A spokesperson for Cox Automotive said, "So far, more than 16,000 Cybertrucks have been sold, but maintaining high sales at this price point will be a challenge."
In November last year, Musk stated that Cybertruck is a great product, but financially, it will take one to 18 months for this product to become a significant positive cash flow contributor. He also mentioned that the new technology involved in this vehicle will increase manufacturing complexity, "We are digging our own grave in developing Cybertruck."
