This was misinterpreted as the richest man being stingy.

During the Gansu earthquake at the end of 2023, 24,000 bottles of drinking water from NONGFU SPRING arrived at the most severely affected area, the disaster relief settlement in Dahuoji Town, Jishishan County, Linxia. Subsequently, the rumor of "the richest man donating 24,000 bottles of water" spread online.

Zhong Shanshan explained that the 24,000 bottles of water originated from NONGFU SPRING's institutional design. NONGFU SPRING has set up a system where the power to donate water is delegated to each major region. Each major region further delegates the authority to donate 1,000 cases to offices and distributors, which amounts to 24,000 bottles.

Zhong Shanshan also revealed the reason for reintroducing purified water: "If it weren't for the online controversies this year, I might never have produced purified water again. Reintroducing purified water is about giving consumers a choice."

Zhong Shanshan mentioned that they didn't choose to produce purified water before because at that time, the purified water made from natural water and the purified water made from tap water were different and distinguishable.
