The Trump family was hacked, and there was a sudden cryptocurrency announcement
Social media accounts of Trump family members were hacked, and false cryptocurrency project statements were posted. Eric Trump warned that the information is a scam, and X platform has locked the related accounts. The false posts claimed that "World Freedom Finance" aims to "take back power" and give financial control to the American people. Trump's campaign team has not responded to the incident. This event reflects that the cryptocurrency field is still vulnerable to attacks and fraud. The "World Freedom Finance" project has not been detailedly announced yet but has attracted attention
On Tuesday, social media accounts of some family members of former President Trump were hacked, posting a false statement about a cryptocurrency project.
According to a statement made by Eric Trump on X (formerly known as Twitter), posts on Laura and Tiffany Trump's X accounts related to the World Liberty Financial project were a "scam," and X locked these accounts "within minutes."
"World Liberty Financial" is a digital asset plan proposed by Republican presidential candidate Trump and his two sons, but all details have not been publicly announced.
The now-deleted post on Laura Trump's X page stated that "World Liberty Financial" aims to "take power away from traditional banks," "give power back to the people," and added that the goal is to "ensure that the American people have complete control over their finances."
This message contained a seemingly fake website link with Trump's photo on it. The webpage stated that "World Liberty Financial" includes a governance crypto token called $WL on the Solana blockchain, which will be used to support micro-payments and an upcoming decentralized financial lending protocol. The page included instructions on how to connect a digital wallet to purchase tokens.
The Trump campaign team did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the events of Tuesday. The "World Liberty Financial" X page warned against clicking links or purchasing any tokens in Laura and Tiffany Trump's personal profiles.
Laura earlier this year became co-chair of the Republican National Committee, married to Eric. Tiffany is Trump's youngest daughter. Trump has been friendly towards the digital asset industry in seeking donations and votes, vowing to make America the "cryptocurrency capital of the world."
His sons Eric and Donald Jr. began promoting the "World Liberty Financial" project on the DeFiant Ones Telegram channel in August. DeFi is a sector in the digital asset space composed of projects that use automated software on the blockchain to provide various financial services. The latest dramatic events serve as a reminder that cryptocurrency as a whole remains vulnerable to fraud and hacking
