Reviewing the past six easing cycles, the market expects Powell to achieve a Greenspan-style soft landing
Traders are looking back to 1995 to help them deal with the first rate cut in four years. In 1995, then-Chairman Alan Greenspan led the Fed to achieve a rare soft landing for the economy. Like about 30 years ago, bonds and stocks are also rising ahead of the crucial Fed policy meeting. But for current Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, the key question this time is whether a 25 basis point cut or a 50 basis point cut is most beneficial for the U.S. economy. (Bloomberg)
