Over 400 million viewers flocked to theaters, breaking box office records again... The U.S. Thanksgiving holiday has sparked a long-awaited "movie-watching craze."
According to Comscore media analyst Paul Dergarabedian, the domestic box office in the U.S. reached a total revenue of $420 million during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday, setting a new record.
Specifically, the total domestic box office for the three-day weekend is estimated to be around $272 million, with the total for 2024 so far (as of Sunday at $7.781 billion) only down 6.4% compared to 2023.
Among them, Disney's animated sequel "Moana" was the most popular film, attracting 17.4 million viewers, followed closely by Universal Pictures' "The Bad Witch" with 8.7 million viewers, and Paramount's "Gladiator 2" which drew 3.3 million viewers from Wednesday to Sunday.
In addition, AMC Entertainment Holdings CEO Adam Aron also wrote on social media:
"There are so many appealing movies in theaters. There has also been a surge in niche film enthusiasts for films like 'Red One,' 'Conclave,' and 'Juror #2,' becoming part of a national phenomenon."
According to Bloomberg, social media user Tony Denaro stated, "The top ten highest-grossing films during the five-day holiday all set new records," and Comscore also reported that "this Thanksgiving weekend was 'extraordinary' for theaters."
As audiences return to cinemas, AMC's stock rose about 10% last week.
