According to Counterpoint Research, global smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2024 increased by 2% year-on-year, marking the first growth since 2018. Apple’s sales remained flat, but due to the early release of the iPhone 16, it became the top-selling brand. Samsung continued to lead in shipments, while Apple led in revenue, setting a historical high. Motorola and Huawei saw sales growth of nearly 30%. Overall market shipments reached 307 million units, with revenue increasing by 10% year-on-year
According to Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2024 increased by 2% year-on-year, marking the first year-on-year growth in the third quarter since the third quarter of 2018. Latin America, Western Europe, and Japan had the highest growth rates. Samsung and Apple (AAPL.US) saw their year-on-year sales remain flat compared to last year in this quarter, with Apple becoming the top-selling brand in September, thanks to the early release of the iPhone 16. Outside the top five, Motorola and Huawei led the market's growth, with sales increasing by nearly 30%. Motorola and Google (GOOGL.US) recorded their highest quarterly sales ever.
Data shows that in the third quarter of 2024, the global smartphone market grew by 2% year-on-year, with shipments reaching 307 million units. Global smartphone revenue increased by 10% year-on-year, and the average selling price rose by 7%. Both revenue and average selling price reached record highs. Samsung continued to lead the market in shipments, capturing 19% of the sales share. Apple led in revenue and set records for its highest third-quarter shipments, revenue, and average selling price in history. Xiaomi ranked third, with revenue growth exceeding the growth rate of shipments, while OPPO ranked fourth. Vivo experienced the fastest year-on-year growth among the top five smartphone brands.
It is reported that the best-selling smartphones globally in the third quarter of 2024 were the iPhone 15, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro. In the third quarter, the iPhone Pro series contributed to half of the total iPhone sales. The Samsung Galaxy S24 has been in the top ten for three consecutive quarters. This is the first time since 2018 that the Galaxy S series has entered the top ten in the third quarter. In the third quarter of 2024, the top 10 models accounted for 19% of the global smartphone market sales.
