Amazon successfully tested drone delivery service in Italy
Amazon successfully completed preliminary tests of drone delivery in Italy and plans to launch the service in Italy and the UK by the end of 2024. Zhitong Finance learned that on Thursday, Amazon (AMZN. US) announced that it has successfully completed preliminary tests of drone delivery in Italy, making it the first European country where the e-commerce giant plans to introduce this service. Amazon stated, "The company will continue to work with Italian authorities to meet all the requirements necessary for launching this service next year."
The company had previously indicated that it hopes to start using drone services in Italy and the UK by the end of 2024. In August of this year, UK aviation regulators announced that they had selected six projects, including Amazon, to test the applications of drones in delivery, infrastructure inspection, and emergency services.
A spokesperson for the company stated that the so-called Prime Air drone package delivery service was first launched in December 2022 and is currently in operation in several locations in Texas and Arizona, with plans for gradual expansion.
In its testing statement for Italy, Amazon announced that on December 4, 2024, Amazon delivery drones will fly for the first time in Italy.
