Apple is reportedly set to begin production next year of a key wireless chip currently supplied by Broadcom
Apple's ambition to use self-developed components in its devices will include a shift to using its own developed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity chips starting next year, replacing some components currently provided by Broadcom. According to informed sources, the chip, codenamed Proxima, has been in development for several years and is now planned for initial production in 2025. Like Apple's other self-developed chips, Proxima will be produced by partner Taiwan Semiconductor. This plan is independent of Apple's highly anticipated plan to replace Qualcomm's wireless modem, but the two parts will ultimately work together. Informed sources say that Apple's goal is to develop an end-to-end wireless solution that is more energy-efficient and tightly integrated with other components
