Ultraman angrily confronts Musk: He is just a "bully" who likes to "fight" with opponents
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an interview, calling him a "bully" and accusing him of enjoying "fighting" with competitors. Altman mentioned that Musk's relationship with OpenAI is strained due to his hostility towards the company, partly because of OpenAI's success and the competition with Musk's newly founded AI company xAI. Despite Musk becoming increasingly politically active, Altman believes he will not use his power against his rivals
Recently, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman "fired shots" at Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an interview with The Times, bluntly stating that Musk "is clearly a bully" who enjoys "fighting" with competitors. He also mentioned that Musk's high-profile disputes with his former company have become a "circus."
Since Musk left OpenAI in 2018, he has maintained a strong critical stance towards his former company and its CEO Altman, with their relationship becoming increasingly tense. In August of this year, Musk refiled a lawsuit, claiming he was "deceived" by Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman into founding OpenAI, and requested a federal court to prevent OpenAI from transitioning into a for-profit entity.
In response, OpenAI publicly released a series of emails showing that Musk had pushed for OpenAI to become a for-profit company during his time at the organization.
In the interview, Altman described Musk as a "legendary entrepreneur" who made significant contributions in the early days of OpenAI. However, he also pointed out, "He is clearly a bully, and he is clearly someone who likes to fight." Altman also mentioned Musk's past "high-profile" arguments with Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.
Altman believes that Musk's hostility towards OpenAI largely stems from OpenAI's success and the fact that he now operates a "direct competitor." Last year, Musk announced his AI startup xAI and released multiple versions of the chatbot Grok.
Altman stated, "I believe that if everything we do were under Musk's control, he would be very happy; he left when he thought we would definitely fail." He also said:
"I can look at this calmly, just like I remember how I felt when he said OpenAI's success rate was 0%, you are all idiots, I want to withdraw my investment, I want to do my own thing."
However, despite Musk's preparation to play an increasingly important role in a potential second term for Trump, Altman still believes that Musk will not use his power to take down his opponents. He previously stated:
"I think some people are really assholes on Twitter, but they still won't abuse the institutions of the country."
