Reuters, April 11 - According to a report by The Information citing an informed source, Alphabet's Google (GOOGL.O) laid off hundreds of employees in its Platforms and Devices division on Thursday, which is primarily responsible for Android software, Pixel phones, and the Chrome browser.
A Google spokesperson told The Information, "Since the merger of the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we have been focused on improving flexibility and operational efficiency, which includes cutting some positions beyond the voluntary departure program proposed in January."
Google did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
Bloomberg reported in February that Google had laid off employees in its cloud computing division, adding that this round of layoffs only affected a few teams.
