On May 15th, Zhang Zongsheng, Vice General Manager of Operations at Taiwan Semiconductor, stated at its technology forum that TSMC built an average of 3 new factories per year from 2017 to 2020, and will build an average of 5 new factories per year from 2021 to 2024. This year, the pace will further accelerate, with plans to build 9 new factories globally, including 8 wafer fabs and 1 advanced packaging factory. Zhang revealed that the 20th wafer fab in Hsinchu and the 22nd fab in Kaohsiung will be the mass production bases for 2-nanometer technology, both of which broke ground in 2022 and are scheduled to start production this year. The 25th wafer fab in Taichung will begin construction by the end of this year, with mass production of technology more advanced than 2-nanometer expected in 2028
