Spirit Airlines applies for bankruptcy or suspension again, United Airlines increases daily flights to assist passengers
United Airlines (UAL.US) announced that starting in January next year, it will add daily flights to 15 cities in the United States to address the risk of the financially troubled low-cost airline Spirit Airlines potentially ceasing operations.
United Airlines stated in a release on Thursday that the 19 additional flights will be put into service starting January 6 and will be permanently included in the flight schedule.
Spirit Airlines recently filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time, less than a year after the last filing. The company assured customers that this would not affect flight operations, ticketing, or membership points programs. There are currently no signs that Spirit Airlines plans to cease operations, but the company warned investors last month that it might not be able to continue operating without additional funding
