There are many good reasons for this,&#34; Jan Otto, district manager of the union for Berlin, Brandenburg, and Saxony, told Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). &#34;There are also many ideas for this.&#34; According to IG Metall, the number of around 2,700 employees is an advantage.</p><p>      &#34;We don't have to keep 20,000 employees in work, but rather, in my opinion, a manageable number that is extremely important for Eisenhüttenstadt at this point,&#34; Otto said. &#34;That's why I believe that the final decision has not yet been made.&#34; In June, it was announced that ArcelorMittal Europe would not be pursuing plans to convert the steelworks in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt to climate-neutral production.</p><p>  Union confident about future of Mercedes plant</p><p>      The district manager of IG Metall was also confident about the Mercedes plant in Ludwigsfelde. &#34;I believe something can be done there,&#34; said Otto. &#34;We will now begin talks with the Mercedes-Benz board of directors. (...) When we talk again next year, we will at least have a basic solution in place, which means that production will continue after 2030.&#34;</p><p>The Sprinter van is produced at the plant. Mercedes-Benz says it currently has no plans to close the Ludwigsfelde plant with regard to Sprinter production in Brandenburg. However, there is some uncertainty among the union and the state government. Mercedes wants to reduce the costs of van production.
