The surge in computing power demand makes G.654.E optical fiber the "golden channel" for capacity
According to the People's Post and Telecommunications News, on October 17, China Telecom announced the public procurement of the 2025-2026 first-level trunk optical cable and joint box concentrated procurement project, with Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company winning the bid with the largest share. This trunk optical cable involves approximately 2.24 million core kilometers of G.654.E optical fibers, marking the first time China Telecom has conducted trunk optical cable bidding in a framework format, and it is the third concentrated procurement of trunk optical cables by domestic operators this year. With the comprehensive advancement of the national "East Data West Computing" project, the three major operators represented by China Telecom are further increasing the construction of trunk networks, leading to a surge in demand for G.654.E. It is understood that the construction of China Telecom's backbone optical cable network has fully accelerated, and this first-level trunk concentrated procurement of G.654.E optical cables, with a scale of 2.24 million core kilometers, can only meet project needs for more than half a year. It is estimated that in mid-2026 or the second half of the year, China Telecom will conduct a new round of trunk concentrated procurement, which will be larger in scale. China Mobile and China Unicom have also entered the peak stage of G.654.E trunk network construction. In today's global wave of AI, G.654.E optical fibers have become a key cornerstone supporting computing power networks. From the macro strategy of "East Data West Computing" to the precise deployment of "millisecond computing" in metropolitan areas, new optical fibers with ultra-low loss, ultra-large capacity, and ultra-low latency are becoming the "golden channel" to connect the pulse of digital China
