Boeing (BA.US) will invest over $1 billion in its 787 Dreamliner production facility located in South Carolina, with plans to double its monthly output in the coming years.

The investment project will create over 1,000 new jobs locally over a five-year period. Currently, Boeing has approximately 8,200 employees in South Carolina, and they are not unionized. The strike by Boeing workers at the defense production facility in Missouri has now lasted 96 days.

Boeing has made a cumulative investment of about $3.5 billion in the area over more than 15 years. The company plans to launch a new assembly line in 2028, at which point the monthly production capacity will increase to 16 787 Dreamliners, setting a record for wide-body aircraft production, and doubling the current production rate, which is about two more than the peak before the pandemic in 2019
