The wholesale price index in India fell by 1.21% year-on-year in October, a decline greater than market expectations

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India announced that the preliminary estimate for India's wholesale price index in October fell by 1.21% year-on-year, a decline greater than the market expectation of a decrease of 0.69%; the previous value rose by 0.13%. During this period, the year-on-year decline in wholesale food prices expanded to 5.04%, compared to a previous decline of 1.99%. Wholesale prices for fuel and energy fell by 2.55%, compared to a previous decline of 2.58%. The year-on-year increase in wholesale prices for manufactured goods was 1.54%, compared to a previous increase of 2.33%.

On a month-on-month basis, India's wholesale price index in October fell by 0.06%, compared to a previous decline of 0.19%. During this period, wholesale food prices remained unchanged month-on-month, compared to a previous decline of 0.78%. Wholesale prices for fuel and energy increased by 1.12%, compared to a previous decline of 0.07%. Wholesale prices for manufactured goods fell by 0.07% month-on-month, compared to a previous increase of 0.14%
