GPT-5.2 "release is imminent," Microsoft CEO announces: "Next generation" Agentic AI model will be unveiled on Friday

Microsoft announced that it will independently release a new generation of AI models on Friday, claiming that it will elevate AI agent capabilities to a new level. This move is seen as a signal of Microsoft's pursuit of greater autonomy in the AI field, coinciding with the intensifying competition in the industry. Meanwhile, the release of GPT-5.2 has been delayed due to technical and production issues, and OpenAI has not provided any updates on the latest progress
As the release plan for OpenAI's GPT-5.2 faces uncertainties, Microsoft announced that it will independently launch a new generation AI model. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated on Thursday at an event in Bangalore, India, that the company will release a new AI model on Friday that "will elevate AI agents to a new level."
Nadella made this announcement during his visit to India, where he has met with Indian Prime Minister Modi and business leaders. Earlier this week, he announced plans to invest $17.5 billion in building AI cloud infrastructure in India, as well as a program to provide training for the Indian population in the AI era.
Microsoft's independent move may reflect its strategic intent to seek greater autonomy in the AI field, rather than solely relying on the technological progress of its partner OpenAI.
This announcement comes at a time when competition in the AI industry is intensifying. According to a previous article from Wall Street Watch, on December 5th, The Verge reported that OpenAI originally planned to release the GPT-5.2 model as early as December 9th, significantly ahead of the originally scheduled late December timeline, in response to fierce competition from Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude.
Comparative images circulating on social media show that GPT-5.2 overwhelmingly "crushes" Gemini 3 and Claude 4.5 in terms of parameters. Sam Altman also claimed in internal evaluations that the new model will lead in reasoning capabilities over Google's competitors.

However, analysts warn that OpenAI's release date is not stable. Due to development issues, server capacity limitations, and actions from competitors, the actual launch time for GPT-5.2 may be later than December 9th. As of the time of publication, OpenAI has not yet released the latest GPT-5.2 model.
