U.S. Treasury Secretary Becerra: Any concerns about Hassett's qualifications to serve as Chairman of the Federal Reserve are absurd

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessenet on Wednesday again denied concerns about whether National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett is qualified to serve as Federal Reserve Chairman. A reporter mentioned that Trump had stated at the end of November that he already knew the candidate, but interviews were still ongoing; in response, Bessenet said, "Maybe he is referring to—maybe I am his choice, but I couldn't accept it at that time."
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basset on Wednesday again denied concerns about whether National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett is qualified to serve as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Basset made the remarks at an event regarding Trump's children's savings accounts:
Any concerns about Director Hassett are absurd. He is a highly qualified Ph.D. economist with his own views, and he, along with other candidates, would make an excellent Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Recently, media reports indicated that Wall Street and some unnamed individuals close to President Trump expressed concerns about Hassett's candidacy to succeed Powell as Chairman of the Federal Reserve in May next year.
In response to a question from a reporter, who mentioned that Trump had stated at the end of November that he already knew the candidate but was still conducting interviews, Basset said: "Maybe he is referring to—maybe I am his choice, but I couldn't accept it at that time."
Basset indicated that there may be one or two more interviews for Federal Reserve Chairman candidates this week
