The S&P 500 Index closed down 1.2% preliminarily, with the technology sector down 2.1%, the telecommunications sector down 1.9%, the industrial sector down 1.7%, the consumer discretionary sector down 1.2%, and the energy sector up 2.2%.
The Nasdaq 100 Index closed down 1.9% preliminarily. Among the constituents, nuclear power stock CEG fell 6.9%, ASML ADR, Palantir, AMD, Arm Holdings, and Lam Research fell up to 5.6%, Tesla fell 4.4%, Nvidia fell 3.7%, Adobe rose 1.9%, Gilead Sciences rose 2.1%, and Diamondback Energy rose 3.6%.
Caterpillar closed down 4.8% preliminarily, Nike and Cisco fell 2%, leading the declines among Dow components along with Nvidia, while Home Depot, Salesforce, McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Chevron, and others rose over 1%
