Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) has officially entered New Zealand, adding a new right-hand drive market to its international footprint.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced the development on Friday, marking its first overseas market expansion in 2026.

Xpeng's inaugural New Zealand service centers — located in Auckland's North Shore and Christchurch — are now operational, providing local customers with sales, delivery, and after-sales services.

Both locations showcase the Xpeng G6, the company's most affordable SUV and a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

Xpeng plans to expand its service network in 2026 by adding locations in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, and Tauranga.

Opening the first service centers marks a crucial step in Xpeng's mission to realize its smart mobility vision in New Zealand, said Damien Royce, the company's New Zealand marketing director.

The new service centers will serve as a gateway for local consumers to engage with and deeply experience Xpeng's products and technology, Royce added.

Some of Xpeng's local competitors, including Geely Auto (HKG: 0175, OTCMKTS: GELYF), Zeekr, and IM Motors, have already entered the New Zealand and Australian markets.

Last month, Chris Chen, head of global business at Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866), told the Wall Street Journal that the company would launch its electric vehicles in Australia and New Zealand this year, with a market debut expected in the second half of 2026.

Australia and New Zealand are right-hand drive markets, where the steering wheel is positioned on the right side, differing from left-hand drive markets like China and the US.Xpeng
