According to reports, TikTok has applied for lending and payment financial licenses in Brazil
According to a report by Reuters, TikTok, a short video platform under ByteDance, has applied to the Central Bank of Brazil for permission to operate as a loan and payment fintech company.
The report indicates that TikTok has applied for two licenses from local regulatory authorities. One license would allow it to operate as an "electronic money issuing institution," providing prepaid accounts for users to store or receive funds, as well as facilitating payments within its application. The second license would enable it to become a "direct lending company," allowing it to lend its own funds or serve as a platform connecting borrowers and lenders.
The report states that if the application is approved, TikTok will be able to provide basic financial services to the Brazilian public, with an operating model similar to that of Nubank, the country's largest digital bank
